I love dressing the table for dinner and personalising it depending on the season or decor. So often you see tableware aimed at the festive season but I wanted to show you that a beautiful table can be for anytime of year!

As shown in the images, I’ve added some sprigs of flowers with the linen napkins for a summer feel to the table but you could do whatever you like.

The crochet napkin rings are so quick to make that you could use up your yarn stash to make a few sets in different colours and then have a completely different feel to your table each time you set it.

It really is a great way to add colour to your table without spending much money. If you’re someone who has all-white china and a wooden aesthetic, handmade napkin rings are a great way to spice things up and keep them fresh.

Crochet Wedding Napkin Ring Holders

Another idea is that you could make these as wedding favours for your guests! They would look awesome in your theme colours for the day. I have lots of other crochet ideas for weddings that I used when my husband and I got married and this is one that I’m sad I didn’t have time for!

There isn’t much to it so let’s get on with the details!

How to crochet tableware like this

This pattern comes with two versions which are mentioned below. One of them has bobble stitches in straight lines and the other has the bobbles in diagonal lines. I would recommend you try out both and see which variant you like. You can also mix and match of course!

This is a beginner friendly pattern that is primarily made up of the bobble stitch. It is worked flat in rows and that gives you the freedom to make them as loose or tight as you want to fit your napkins perfectly.

Yarn

To crochet this modern crochet napkin holder, I used Erika Knight (Gossypium Cotton; 100% cotton, 50g/100m) which is a Category 3 Weight yarn. For mine, I needed approximately 1 ball of Iced Gem (5044).

You can use any similar weighted yarn for your project and if you need further suggestions, here are a few:

• Rico Essentials Cotton DK (100% cotton; 120m/50g)
• DROPS Cotton Merino (50% fine merino, 50% Egyptian cotton; 110m/50g)
• Lion Brand Cotton Bamboo (52% cotton, 48% Rayon from bamboo, 224m/100g)

Materials

Along with your yarn, you will need the following:

• 4 mm (G) crochet hook (or hook required to meet gauge)
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Stitches

The beginner crochet bobble napkin rings uses the following crochet stitches:

sc – single crochet (UK dc – double crochet)

dc – double crochet (UK tr – treble crochet)

Special Stitches

This crochet napkin ring free pattern is made by using simple bobble stitches which give it that extra something. While bobble stitches are more yarn-heavy, this is a great way to use up any bits of yarn you have lying around.

Here are a few suggestions of all the different things you can crochet with the bobble stitch:

• Diamond Bobble Cushions (inspired by mirror images and negative spaces)
• Bright Bobble Blanket (worked with an easy stitch repeat)

4dc bobble – 4 double crochet bobble

Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook. (There will be 2 loops on the hook at this point.) *Yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * twice more. (There will be 6 loops on hook.) Yarn over, draw through all remaining loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

The pattern is written in standard US crochet terms.

The napkin rings are worked flat and then seamed.

You will turn at the end of each row.

A ch1 at the beginning of a round does not count as a stitch.

Gauge and Sizing

The gauge for the filet crochet scarf is 16 st and 20 rows = 10cm by 10cm but gauge isn’t essential as long as you are happy with the size of your crochet holders.

With the yarn and hook I used, the finished napkin rings measure 6cm by 14cm circumference.
