I’m so excited to introduce this quick and easy summer crochet top pattern! The Eyelet Lace Tee is a mesh style tee that is constructed from two matching rectangles that are simply seamed at the shoulders and sides.

It features basic stitches and doesn’t have any shaping to worry about, so it’s a great beginner crochet garment pattern for anyone to try!

In adult sizes from XS to 5XL (30″-62″ chest sizes) you can adapt the length and armhole depth to suit you perfectly.

In this post you’ll find everything you need to know how to crochet a mesh crochet top pattern including materials, stitches, a detailed video tutorial and free written pattern for blog subscribers.

This free summer top crochet pattern is a wonderful, beginner-friendly project. It uses a simple pattern repeat to create the top and bottom eyelet lace detail and an equally simple repeat for the body.

It really is a garment that anyone can achieve and most of all enjoy making!

Made with two matching panels for the front and back which are seamed at the sides and shoulders it is completely customisable in every aspect to ensure it fits you perfectly.

The top has classic, clean lines that will suit anyone and you can adjust so many aspects of it to make it really unique and special for you.

You can change the width, length, armhole depth, add sleeves, change the neckline, you can do whatever you like with this simple t shirt blueprint. (I’m planning on making a chunky wool one with sleeves for the Winter!)

Another great top to try if you love this construction is my Mystical Tee that is a simple crochet top pattern that also uses two rectangles and a beautifully textured stitch with a more closed feel.

  • Lightweight Design: Made with soft cotton making it great for hot beach days.
  • Simple to adjust: Easily modify the length and shape to suit you.
  • Modern and fun: The areas of crochet mesh make it modern yet the closed stitches make it modest.

Getting Started: Materials Needed for Your Easy Crochet Top

Sizing

The Eyelet Lace crochet top free pattern comes in sizes XS-5XL with instructions on how to adjust it to suit you. (I always try to add this as my Mum is much shorter than me and always complains that patterns are too long for her!)

Size – Bust (inches/cm), Length (inches/cm), Armhole depth (inches/cm)

XS – 30in/76cm – 22in/56cm – 9in/23cm

S – 34in/86cm – 22in/56cm – 9in/23cm

M – 38in/96cm – 22in/56cm – 9.5in/24cm

L – 42in/107cm – 24in/61cm – 9.5in/24cm

2XL – 50in/127cm – 24in/61cm – 10in/25cm

3XL – 54in/137cm – 26in/66cm – 10in/25cm

4XL – 58in/147cm – 26in/66cm – 10.5in/26.5cm

5XL – 62in/157cm = 26in/66cm – 11in/28cm

Yarn

To make the easy tee I used James C Brett – It’s 100% Pure Cotton DK which is 100% double knit cotton, 215m/100g in Cream (IC-01). It’s such a lovely light cotton with a fabulous ‘bounce’ to it that makes it great for summer garments and shawls.

How much yarn do I need to crochet the summer top?

You will need 3 (4, 4, 4, 5) (5, 6, 7, 7) balls of yarn to make the top.

As a great alternative – one of my fabulous testers used Lion Brand: Coboo 3ply Cotton Yarn, which is 50% cotton, 50% bamboo, 212m/100g and looks so beautiful! It comes in some awesome colours and is super comfy to wear.

Before you dive into crocheting your top, take a moment to read through the pattern notes—it’s a game-changer!

These handy insights will not only simplify your pattern-reading journey but also ensure a smoother crochet experience.

Trust me, a quick peek at these notes will set you up for crochet success!

  • The summer crochet top is made from two matching panels for the front and back that are then seamed together for the shoulders and sides.
  • A ch1 or ch3 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
  • The top is worked from the top down.
  • Turn your work at the end of each row.
  • Read through the entire pattern before beginning.
  • Before you start, go through the pattern and highlight/mark the stitch and row counts that correspond to the size you are making (this will make your life much easier!).
  • Make sure that you are familiar with all of the stitches in the abbreviations list before you begin.
  • Instructions are given for the smallest size, with larger sizes in brackets ( ). E.g. XS (S, M, L, XL), (2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL).
  • If an instruction does not apply to a particular size then a – is used instead of a number. E.g. – (-, 4, 4, 5) (5, 5, 6, 6) means that the XS and S sizes do not apply to this instruction.
  • Stitch counts are given in [ ] at the end of each Row. If no stitch count is given, then the count is the same as the previous Row.
  • The pattern uses standard US crochet terms.

Work matching panels for the front and the back of the top:

Foundation chain: ch 60 (69,78,84,93,102,108,117,126)

Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and each along [59, 68,77,83,92,101,107,116,125]

Row 2: RS: ch3 (does not count as stitch), tr in next 2, *ch1, skip 1, tr in next 2, rep from * to end.

Row 3: ch1 (does not count as stitch), sc in each across.

Rows 2 and 3 create the first Set Pattern.

Rows 4-13: Repeat the pattern five more times for all sizes.

Row 14: ch3 (does not count as stitch), tr in each across.

Row 15: ch1 (does not count as stitch), sc in each across.

Rows 14 and 15 create the middle pattern. Repeat the middle pattern 12 (12,12,13,13,13,14,14,14) more times.

At the end of the middle pattern repeats, continue to work the cuff section.

Row 1: ch3 (does not count as stitch), tr in next 2, *ch1, skip 1, tr in next 2, rep from * to end.

Row 2: ch1 (does not count as stitch), sc in each across.

Rows 1 and 2 create the cuff eyelet pattern.

Repeat the cuff eyelet pattern 2, (2,2,3,3,3,4,4,4) more times to complete the panel.

Joining the panels and creating the top:

To create the shoulder seams – with RS facing inwards (so that the seam is on the inside), join 12 (16,21,24,28,33,36,40,45) stitches at either side of the Foundation Chain to create the neck hole.

You can either use a slip stitch or sew to join, whichever you prefer.

To create the side seams – with RS facing inwards, starting from the bottom of the middle section (before the cuff section starts) upwards for 18 (18,19,19,20,20,20,21,22) rows. This creates the armholes.

FINISHING

Weave in all ends and block to measurements.
