Crochet C2C Pillow Pattern – Geometric, Colourful and Fun

There’s something about colourful crochet that makes my heart sing and I love nothing more than adding a pop of colour to the home with a crochet pillow (or 12…!).

There are times for plain crochet homeware patterns and then there are times for ones like these. The ones that accent a room and tie everything together – I love moving them around the house to instantly change the feel of each room.

About the Colourful c2c Cushion Pattern

The pillow is constructed from 2 panels of c2c crochet. The back is plain (although you can make it colourful if you want!) and so I’d suggest making that first to really get the hang of the technique before you do the front and all the colours!

There are lots of options for changing colours in corner to corner crochet but if it’s something like a pillow or bag where you won’t see the wrong side then I carry my yarn as floats across the inside/back as much as possible. This means hardly any ends to weave, hooray!

The Bargello Inspiration for the Pillow Cover

The inspiration for the pattern came from all the amazing Bargello designs that I’ve seen over the years (mostly in needlepoint). I love how they work in rows but almost look like they are stepped or ‘rippled’.

I wanted to go about creating a c2c pillow pattern that took elements of that with a nod to a geometric floral design and this is what I came up with!

The Crochet Pillow Tension and Sizing Options

The cushion cover pattern is made to fit cushion pad measuring 45X45cm (18X18in).

Tension (gauge) is 9-by-9 c2c blocks to measure 10X10cm (4X4in) using a 4.5mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension.

Yarn for the Cushion

To make this crochet colourwork cushion I used Scheepjes Colour Crafter (100% premium acrylic, 100g/300m) yarn.

You will need:

2 Balls of Delft (1117)

1 Ball of each: Drachten (1827), Den Bosch (1241), Alphen (1722), Eelde (1422), Barneveld (1005), Eindhoben (1114), Assen (1065)

A great alternative that has loads of colours to choose from is Brava Sport by WeCrochet 100% premium acrylic, 273yds/100g.

I have both yarns in my stash and I’ve swatched and they’re a perfect match for me!

Other Materials You Will Need

Along with your yarn, you will need the following:

• A 4.5mm (US 7) crochet hook- my favourites are Furls Streamline Swirl crochet hooks or Caspian Regular crochet hook

• Scissors

• Tapestry needle

• Cushion pad 45X45cm (18X18in)

Pattern Notes

The pillow is made up of two panels of c2c crochet that are joined together at the end.

Each panel is worked in a corner to corner construction (c2c), working blocks diagonally across each row.

Each ‘block’ is made up of a ch3 and 3tr/dc and each ‘row’ is worked diagonally, starting with 1 block in the bottom right corner, increasing to 2 blocks in the next row, 3 blocks in the next row, and so on.

Change colour on the final yarn round hook of stitch before the colour change is indicated, unless otherwise stated.

Carry unused colours across the wrong side (WS) of your work, ready to pick up again where needed.

Row 6: Ch6, tr in fourth ch from hook and next 2 ch, *ss in ch-3 sp on next block from prev row, ch3, 3tr in same sp**; Rep from * twice more, change to eelde, rep from * to ** once more, change to Assen, rep from * to ** once more, turn. [6 c2c blocks]
