A woman with long hair, wearing a purple sweater and an easy crochet ear warmer pattern as a textured pink headband, stands outside, smiling with her hand on her hip.

Twisted crochet headbands can sometimes be very bulky where the twist sits on the top of your head. I didn’t want this to be the case with mine.

Instead, you’ll see that the twist is delicate, stylish and neatly frames the face! I love how it’s turned out and I hope you do too!

Did you spot that I have a matching easy crochet hat pattern, using the same gorgeous tweed yarn too?

Yarn

To make this crochet ear warmer pattern, I used Brava Tweed by WeCrochet, 97% Premium Acrylic, 3% Viscose (218yds/200m/100g)

This premium acrylic is enhanced with flecks of viscose Tweed to add depth to sweaters, blankets, and more while maintaining the durability and affordability you can expect from the Brava family.

The range of coordinating colors all feature cream, coffee, and charcoal tweed flecks, and for even more color options, Brava Tweed can mix and match with Brava Worsted or Brava Speckle to create beautiful projects!

Hypoallergenic, hard-wearing, and machine washable, as always, Brava Tweed is sure to please.

This is a category 4, medium weight yarn, which gives a cozy and warm feel to my headband. Check our handy yarn weight chart and guide to find out more about yarn weights and categories.

You can use any yarn that you like bearing in mind that you need to make sure you meet the gauge. Some other great options are:

  • Perfect For Beginner Crocheters: Simple and fun project for those new to crocheting
  • Gift-Making: Great for creating handmade gifts for family and friends
  • Winter Wear: A stylish and functional accessory for colder months
  • All Ages: Make matching ear warmers for the whole family

Constructing your Easy Crochet Ear Warmer

The ear warmer is made from the bottom up in flat rows.

We work a number of slip stitches at the beginning and end of each row to shape for the Centre Twist.

When the desired height is reached, the two ends are twisted and sewn in place to create the Centre Twist and shape the ear warmer.

Customisation

You can adjust the circumference and height of your ear warmer by working more/less stitches and more/less rows.

You can also adjust the weight of yarn you use and work to the measurements of the schematic.

Switching yarn weight is super easy for this project! Just start by making a chain to fit the circumference of your head (or that matches the measurements in the schematic).

You can work as many or as few slip stitches either end of your rows to create a different sized Centre Twist but be mindful the more you do, the smaller your ear warmer will become.

Before you jump into crocheting your infinity twist headband, take a moment to read through the pattern notes—it’s a game-changer!

These handy insights will not only simplify your pattern-reading journey but also ensure a smoother crochet experience. You’ll find helpful tips on deciphering the sizing, customisation and more.

Trust me, a quick peek at these notes will set you up for crochet success!

  • The pattern is worked in flat turned rows.
  • Turn the work at the end of each row.
  • A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
  • Read through the entire pattern before beginning.
  • Before you start, go through the pattern and highlight/mark the stitch and row counts that correspond to the size you are making (this will make your life much easier!).
  • Make sure that you are familiar with all of the stitches in the abbreviations list before you begin.
  • Stitch counts are given in [ ] at the end of each row. If no stitch count is given, then the count is the same as the previous row.
  • The count number referring to each size is laid out as follows: Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult, Large Adult)
