More about this simple crochet beanie pattern
Sometimes I think simple is best. It’s great to find a project that doesn’t use much yarn, is a nice easy stitch repeat and that works up fast!
This crochet hat is all about the texture and so keeping it simple with the construction and style was all about making those stitches do the work for us.
All you need to do is work the one row stitch repeat to create a rectangle for the hat, then seam the side, gather the top and turn back your brim. The easiest hat construction you’ll find!
The beanie is in all the sizes I could think of from premature baby right through to large adult making it perfect for anyone.
Is a beanie easy to crochet?
I often get asked ‘is a beanie easy to crochet’ and my answer is always yes! As long as you choose a nice basic pattern like this one that is great for beginners.
So, if you want to know how to crochet a beanie for adults, children or babies then this is the one for you.
I love creating easy crochet hat patterns and so here are a few more suggestions for you and all your friends and family (and you can search my blog for many more patterns too):
- The Basketweave Beanie Hat (gorgeous textured top down hat pattern)
- Slouchy Mirabilis Hat (another side to side hat pattern)
- Pumpkin Beanie (my most popular pattern ever!)
Yarn
To crochet this simple hat, I used Brava Worsted; 100% premium acrylic; 208yds/100g which is a great yarn for hats as it’s so warm!
You’ll need 1 ball per hat or approximately this yardage:
Child sizes: Premature (0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-24 months, 3-10 years)
Yarn (yds): 50 (60, 70, 90, 110, 140)
Adult Sizes: Teen/Small Adult (Medium Adult, Large Adult)
Yarn (yds): 160 (170, 190)
Alternatively, here are some beautiful yarns that would also work really well to crochet this baby suit:
- Sirdar Classic Worsted (50% wool, 50% acrylic; 218yds / 200m /100g)
- Paintbox Simply Aran (100% acrylic, 184m/100g)
- Mighty Stitch Yarn (20% Superwash wool, 80% acrylic; 190m/100g)
Tension and Sizing
16 sts and 15 rows measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over main stitch repeat if you’re using a 6mm hook. You can adjust the hook size to obtain the correct tension.
The finished hats have the following measurements:
