The Barcode Crochet Poncho Pattern is a stylish, easy crochet garment to wear, perfect for layering in the Winter and for cool Summer evenings too. A great wardrobe staple that you can really rely on.
If you’re like me then you’ll not only love easy to make crochet garments like this but also ones that are easy to wear!
This sophisticated roll neck poncho is just that, throw it on over jeans or leggings and you’re away. It’s effortlessly comfortable and cosy too.
About the Barcode Crochet Poncho Pattern
The poncho is an intermediate level pattern which needs you to crochet two matching textured crochet panels for the front and back which are seamed at the shoulders and sides.
Add a front and back bottom cuff, and a simple roll neck collar and you’re done!
In sizes XS-5XL the poncho is great for everyone who loves simple, stylish and beautiful crochet garments.
The pattern is classed as intermediate because of the post stitches it uses in the cuff and collar section – the rest of it is super easy with no increasing or decreasing and no tricky colour changes.
So if you are just starting out and fancy a go then I’d love to encourage you to, just let me know if you need any help – I’d be happy to!

Yarn
To make the Barcode Crochet Poncho Pattern I used Sirdar Snuggly Double Knit which is 55% nylon, 45% acrylic, 165m/50g and so lovely to work with!
I usually use it for crochet baby blankets but I’m definitely going to use it for more garments now!
You will need the following quantities:
Size | Balls of Main Colour (A) – Cloud | Balls of 2nd Colour (B) – Rice Pud |
XS/Small | 8 | 3 |
Medium | 9 | 3 |
Large | 9 | 3 |
XL | 11 | 3 |
2/3 XL | 13 | 3 |
4/5 XL | 15 | 4 |
A great alternative yarn you could try is Lion Brand Baby Soft light worsted yarn, which is 60% acrylic, 40% nylon, 420m/100g and slightly denser but still lovely and soft too.

Pattern Notes
Work a matching front and back panel before adding a different cuff to the front and back panel.
The collar is worked separately and then sewn in place once the sides and shoulders are seamed.
A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
When working the front and back panels always work into the back loop (BL) of a stitch when working on the right side (RS).
When working the front and back panels always work into the front loop (FL) of a stitch when working on the wrong side (WS).
When working the panels the treble stitches are always worked into the stitches of 2 rows below, working over the chains of the previous row. This is often referred to as the double crochet moss stitch.
The asterisks ** used in Rows 1-3 of XS/Small and XL sizes denote the main section of stitch pattern which is worked for other sizes.
Adjusting the Crochet Poncho to suit you
You can adjust the side seams and shoulder seams to change the poncho fit to suit you.
If you would like to make your poncho longer or shorter then just add or subtract rows at the beginning and end of the panel (make sure you do an even change on both the beginning and end to make sure the pattern stays central).
If you’re looking for a different shape poncho then look no further than my Franny Granny Square Poncho Pattern – it has a deep V shape at the front and back that you can add sleeves or a fun fringe to!
