I have worn mine as a shawl for a wedding outfit as a guest and have even had it requested to be made in ivory as a crochet bridal shawl – I was so honoured! About the Mohair Crochet Scarf Pattern
This stunning shawl pattern (or scarf if you prefer) is designed to be light as a feather and perfect to wear all year round. With delicate lace crochet detail yet a simple four row pattern repeat, it’s a joy to make and creates a really statement crochet accessory to treasure.
Perfect for any season and just the thing for a wedding shawl too. Style it with jeans and tank top, a floaty summer dress, cocktail dress or full on ball gown. It will make every outfit feel just that bit more luxurious.
Using just beginner crochet stitches it’s a pattern that anyone can achieve and enjoy even though it looks complicated. The only tricky bit is learning how to work with the fine mohair yarn – more on that later 🙂
Yarn
To make the lace mohair scarf I used Scheepjes Mohair Rhythm.
Lace Weight, 70% mohair, 30% microfibre, 200m/25g

Tips for working with Mohair lace yarn
I know that lots of people want to run a mile at the thought of using such fine lace weight yarn for a project but I promise it’s worth the effort and not as bad as you might think once you get going! My top tips for using Mohair or lace weight yarn would be –
- Make sure you have a comfortable hook to use (I love an ergonomic handle but use whatever is best for you).
- Don’t try and grip your yarn too tightly with your non-dominant hand. This will really make you hand ache as the yarn is so thin so really focus on keeping both hands relaxed.
- Check your gauge before going too far. The nature of this lace yarn means that it will need blocking quite firmly to get to the shape it needs to be – make sure you check sooner rather than later as the ‘fluffiness’ of the yarn means that it does not like being undone (frogged)!

The finished shawl measures 58cm by 156cm (23 x 61 in) so lovely and generous to wrap around as you’d like to.
How much yarn do I need to crochet the mohair scarf?
I used 5 balls of Foxtrot, which is approximately 875m of yarn to make the wrap.
Other Materials
Along with your yarn, you will need the following:
- 4.5mm (US G+) crochet hook – my favourites are Dots Crochet Hooks or Caspian Regular crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers

- A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch. A ch3 at the beginning of a row counts as a stitch.
