The thing I love most about designing crochet patterns is breaking the rules. I love that when you don’t stick to the rules it nearly always produces something magical. I say nearly always as sometimes it can be a complete disaster but I guess we have to live and learn?! In the case of The Classic Cowl I reckon I got away with my rule breaking.
The Cowl
I designed this cowl with just one thing in mind, the drape. I wanted something that was light, airy, soft, gentle and all those lovely things a cowl should be. I used an 8mm crochet hook and dtr/ttr stitches to create just the drape I was after, clearly not sticking to the rule book of what one should do with double knit yarn! The result though is a shawl/cowl/scarf that is perfect for any occasion and works up in a flash.
The Yarn
50% Wool Superwash Merino x 25% Microfiber x 25% Acrylic 105m/50g
4 balls of Michelangelo (603)
Materials:
Along with the yarn you will also need:
An 8mm/L crochet hook
Needle
Scissors
Finished Size:
The finished cowl is a one size fits all kind of thing and measures 35cm by 98cm.
Tension:
12st and 4 rows = 10cm by 10cm
