I have always been a fan of texture in crochet and what better way to bring it than with a twisted cable crochet stitch? It’s one of my favourites for creating all sorts of designs but especially hats, scarves and accessories like my twisted tweed crochet boot cuffs – they are super quick and easy to make!
With only a two row repeat the pattern is easy to memorise and once you get the hang of where to pop the long treble crochet stitches you’ll be making without even thinking.
Pattern Ideas for the Twisted Cable Crochet Stitch
As I mentioned, I used this stitch in my recent crochet boot cuff design but it would be great used for:
Accessories
Blankets
Pillows
Even garments – it would make a lovely cosy winter sweater!
Skill Level
This is an intermediate crochet stitch. If you’d like more intermediate level stitches you might like the cabbage patch crochet stitch or the herringbone moss stitch that are also both packed with lovely texture.
If you are a beginner but would still like to learn some textured stitches you’ll love the simple crochet cable stitch and the cross puff stitch perhaps.
Materials and Tools
Use any yarn you like for this stitch – it works equally well with fine or bulky yarn!
For the video tutorial I used Hue and Me by Lion Brand, #5/Bulky yarn, 80% acrylic, 20% wool, 125m/125g
I used a 9mm (N) crochet hook but choose a crochet hook suitable for the weight of yarn you are using.
Stitch Pattern Notes
The pattern is written in US crochet terms.
A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
A ch3 at the beginning of a row does count as a stitch (you can work a stacked stitch if you prefer).
The written pattern here is to help inspire you to learn something new – I’d love to see what you create with the twisted cable crochet stitch!
